Description

  • Claude Lalanne
  • An Extremely Rare "Habanana" Humidor
  • stamped 1967/CLAUDE/LALANNE and c 66
  • bronze

Provenance

Alexander Iolas Gallery, New York, ca. 1970s

Condition

Overall in good original condition. Due to wear, the majority of the patinated metal surface has been lost. The sculpture functions as a humidor, with the top portion of the banana elements on a hinge revealing the cigar storage portion. Currently lacking the top portion of two tops, as seen in the catalogue illustration. With surface scratches and oxidation to the metal, some of which shows slightly green in color. Surface dirt throughout and some surface residue to the interior of the storage areas. This lot is the second known example of the model to exist. Another example of the model was offered at auction in Paris and incorrectly catalogued as a unique work.
