Description

  • Dimitri Omersa
  • Collection of Six Footstools
  • the elephant branded ENGLAND

  • leather
  • retailed by Abercrombie & Fitch

Condition

Overall excellent condition. This is an assembled collection, which showcases the playful designs created by Omersa. Designed as footstools, each of the animals has a stiff filling, and therefore are firm to the touch. The leather of each animal has acquired a beautiful patina, and all exhibit a slightly different color. Each with some rubbing, scratches, and light use. The turtle, as seen in the catalogue illustration, shows a redder color and has the largest degree of rubbing to the top shell portion of the footstool. The elephant with some crazing to the surface and small abrasions to the surface concentrated along the seams. None of these abrasions break the surface of the leather, but do show lighter in color, as seen in the catalogue illustration.

Catalogue Note

In 1927, a leather footstool in the form of a pig was designed for retail at Liberty & Company in London.  Dimitri Omersa took over the production of this model in the 1960s  and began to introduce his own designs, beginning with an elephant.  The collections of leather footstools produced by Omersa and Company were retailed in the United States through Abercrombie & Fitch starting in the 1960s and continued into the 1980s.
