Condition

Good overall condition.
The canvas is not lined. A close inspection reveals a stable network of hair-line craquelures in the red pigment of the scarf and evidence of four possible staple marks along the upper edge. Examination under UV light reveals an intermittent horizontal line of retouching along the upper edge and a small spot of retouching in the upper left corner. There are four spots of retouching to cover minor losses of pigment, two in the upper left quadrant towards the centre of the left edge, one towards the centre of the lower edge and one in the centre of the upper right quadrant. There are nine retouched scratches scattered on the figure's chin, nose, hairline, fingers and shoulder. There appears to be a varnish.
