Condition

The work is made up of a number of sheets which are sound, but thin in places. The sheets appear to have been laid onto further sheets of paper for strengthening, and the edges of these sheets are slightly visible. In the upper left quadrant, there is a small crack to the paint on the man's neck, and a very small indentation on the woman's eye. In the lower left quadrant, there are several very minor spots of surface matter and a small abrasion on the boy's chest. The paper is undulating in the corner. In the lower right quadrant, there is a pinhole and a few minor spots of surface matter and abrasions. In the upper right quadrant, there are two media marks occurring near the right hand edge, and an indentation above the boy's head. Under ultraviolet light, there appear to be a few small spots of flecked retouching, including two spots in the upper right hand quadrant, one of which corresponds with the aforementioned indentation. Held in a simple gilt box frame. Please telephone the department on 020 7293 5381 if you have any questions regarding the present work
