Catalogue Note
The writer Israël Querido (1872-1932) wrote an epic cycle about Amsterdam in four episodes titled De Jordaan (Amsterdam 1912), Van Nes tot Zeedijk (Amsterdam 1915), Manus Peet (Amsterdam 1922) en Mooie Karel (Amsterdam 1925) – which became his most popular book. Manus Peet is the principal character in the third part and became a popular hero. Sluijters created male image of Manus Peet for a poster.
