Catalogue Note

Henri Plé entered enthusiastically into the vogue for Orientalism, which brought a highly creative response in sculpture. Sculptors took the opportunity to render the luxuriant treatment of Middle Eastern costumes and accoutrements as in the present lot showing traditional costume and jewelry from North Africa. Here the subject-matter perfectly matched the introduction of multi-colored patinas to pick out the vivid contrasts and exotic details.
