surmounted by a Breccia Pernice marble top, one frieze drawer with the metallic label stamped SCHMIT / EBENISTERIE D'ART, TAPPISSERIE / 22, Rue de Charonne, PARIS.

Condition

Overall very good condition; the marble top with old repaired breaks not visible to the naked eye and with some infilled chips to top and with plaster re-enforcement to underside; minor nicks and wear to edges and with some surface scratches. The gilt-bronze clean and retaining original gilding with some light areas of rubbing and wear; the veneers in very good condition and have been French-polished.

Catalogue Note

Frédéric Schmit was one of the greatest French cabinet-makers of the second half of of the 19th century, active in Paris at the Rue de Charonne starting in 1856. He received Gold Medals at the 1878 and 1889 Expositions Universelles in Paris.
