Condition
Original canvas. There are scattered areas of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably to the figure's face and hair, and to the upper left edge of his bag. Apart from scattered craquelure, a repair to the upper left corner (patched on the reverse) and a horizontal stretcher mark at the centre, this work is in good condition, with rich tones and fine detail. Held in an ornate, bronze-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.
