Catalogue Note

George Frampton's series of nine reliefs of heroines from Malory's Morte d'Arthur was commissioned for the door of the Great Hall of William Waldorf Astor's house at 2 Temple Place. These gilt reliefs are still in place. In addition to the present relief, only one other bronze is known - a slightly larger version in the collection of the Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery.
