Catalogue Note

Fernkorn's monumental bronze group of St. George and the Dragon is known in a photograph of the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1855 where it towered over the sculpture court.  Completed in 1853, it was installed on a large marble plinth in Zagreb, Croatia, then part of the Hungarian dominions of Austria-Hungary.  A marble version is also known there, in the Ethnographic Museum.
