Description
- Approximately 175cm. high by 133cm. wide; 5ft. 9in., 4ft. 4in.
composite panel of polychrome wool motifs, including trailing stems, birds and flowers, rising from a hillocky ground incorporating small motifs of hound chasing a stag; all motifs applied to a later cream calico ground
Condition
The 18th century motifs are from another panel originally, and have been placed on this later calico ground (which has some iron-rust marks, and other stains). It has a hessian backing. Old hoops across the top for hanging. The hillocky ground incorporates large leaves which would not ordinarily be part of this section of the design known on earlier panels, as the large leaves would emanate from the rising stems. The leaves pendant from the top edge are placed as decorative detailing to this panel. The bold foliate motifs are in good condition. Decorative composite panel.
