  • After Michelangelo (1475-1564)

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good. There are some minor nicks, wear and dirt consistent with age and handling. Next to being rubbed the dark lacquer has flaked off slightly in several places. There is an area of fissure and particular wear to the back of the Virgin, some of the original plugs are loose here as well. The proper right upper leg of Christ has a hairline crack to it. There is a small dent to the front of the base at the proper right side of the group. There is a small hole due to a casting flaw in the branch Christ's proper left foot rests on.
