Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined and is stable. PAINT SURFACE The paint surface is generally sound but has a thick varnish which has slightly discoloured in some areas. ULTRAVIOLET UV light reveals infilling to retouching in the sky and some further to the horse. FRAME Held in a plaster gilt frame in fair condition.

Catalogue Note

Judging from the all-black colours, the horse in the present work is one of the many champions belonging to Mr John Bowes of Streatlam, Co. Durham.
