Condition

The top of the book is restored in plaster. The end of the nose is restored. There is an old hairline fracture down the left arm and on the right shoulder, where there is also some plaster fill. There are various small old chips on the drapery and around the bottom edge. Otherwise the condition is good

La figura della Sapienza, regge un libro e un serpente, attributi condivisi dalla Prudenza. Fu particolarmente popolare in età medievale-rinascimentale

Sapientia, allegorical of wisdom, holds a book and a snake which were also the attributes of Prudence - Prudentia- who she sometimes replaces. The imagery was popular in the medieval as well as the renaissance periods.
