Condition

Oil on canvas. The surface is dirty. There is minor paint loss around the edges of the canvas. There is a small tear (about 1/4 in. long) near center of composition. The paint layer is thin in some areas, could be original. The canvas is buckled slightly on right hand side. Held in an original painted wood frame with plaster molding. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

It is likely this composition was executed in the 1930s while Grigoriev was living at Borisella. The scene is most likely one of Grigoriev's favorite gardens on the estate.
