This still life has never been removed from its original stretcher. However, the paint layer may have been more recently cleaned. The cleaning may have been slightly unevenly carried out but it has not created any problems or abrasions. The paint layer is stable and needs no further restoration. There may be some slight augmentation to the white background around the black leaves and in the white petals of the magnolia in the upper left which is not original. These marks, which show strongly under ultraviolet light, may either be original or extremely sloppy and probably unnecessary retouches. It is definitely worth re-examining these restorations.
