Catalogue Note

On his 21st birthday on 10 April 1868, Grand Duke Vladimir was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir 4th Class in recognition of his excellent service.  Thereafter he attained higher classes of the Order, receiving the 2nd Class Military Division in September 1877 for commanding the 12th Corps of the Army in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878.  In 1883, he was given the 1st Class after the Coronation of Alexander III at which he commanded all the troops participating in Moscow.
