Provenance

Supplied to William, 3rd Viscount Courtenay, later 9th Earl of Devon (1768-1835) and thence by descent.

Literature

Inventory 1880, probably the `inlaid writing desk or table', recorded in the 1st Drawing Room
Probably illustrated 'Powderham Castle', Country Life, April 4th 1908, Vol. XXIII, p. 492 in the First Library.

Condition

The green baize is old but not original and is faded and stained. The colour and patina generally are good and overall the condition is very good. The back is rather faded though from the south. There are very minor chips to veneers, old marks and scratches consistent with age and use. There is some old worm to secondary timbers. It is an extremely elegant table.
