Description

- 'MOUNT WILLIAMSON, SIERRA NEVADA, FROM MANZANAR, CALIFORNIA'
mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, a Carmel studio stamp (BMFA 11) on the reverse, framed, 1944, printed in the 1970s (400 Photographs, p. 261)
Condition
This print, on paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, tiny deposits of original retouching are scattered throughout. The lower left corner of the print is lifting slightly from the mount.
There are rust-colored deposits along the right and left edges of the mount and two tiny brown pinpoint deposits above the lower edge. On the reverse, there are fingerprints and light soiling. None of these affects the image.
Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 11 on the reverse of the print's mount: 1973 through 1977.
