Condition
This print, trimmed to the image and with a slight surface sheen and rich range of black and dark gray tones, is mounted to cream-colored board and is in generally excellent condition. A 1½-inch horizontal surface scratch that does not break the emulsion runs along the top left edge of the image. On the bottom left edge of the image, a ¼-inch horizontal transparent deposit of indeterminate nature is visible under close examination.

It is believed that the contact print offered here is one of only four extant prints of this image and the only one in private hands. Aside from the present print, there is another contact print in Le Centre Pompidou, Paris, an enlargement in The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and an enlargement in The Paul Strand Archive, Millerton.
