Description

  • Ansel Adams
  • WINTER LANDSCAPES
4 Parmelian prints, each signed 'Ansel E. Adams' in pencil in the margin and annotated in pencil on the reverse, framed, circa 1933 (4)

Condition

These prints have the typical warm tonality of Adams's Parmelian prints and are in generally very good condition. They are all annotated by the photographer in pencil on the reverse as follows: 'Landscape 5,' 'Landscape 14-B,' 'Landscape 34A,' and 'D.51.' Sunning is evident around each print's periphery at the mat opening. There is slight rippling at the left and right edges of 'Landscape 14-B.' There is a tiny pinpoint rust-colored deposit in the left margin near the edge of 'Landscape 5.' Ansel Adams generally signed his prints 'Ansel Easton Adams' prior to 1932, when he learned of his uncle Easton's underhanded business dealings with his father. Adams included the initial 'E.' prior to 1934, when he ceased any mention of his middle name altogether. The dating of these prints, circa 1933, covers the brief time when he incorporated the initial in his signature.
