Description

  • A classical scene with a youth being led away from a young nymph by his father, possibly Pyramus being lead away from Thisbe

Condition

The unlined canvas presents a horizontal seam running, as visible in the catalogue illustartion. Scattered retouchings can be made out under UV light. There are some areas of minor abrasion but the canvas is overall in fair condition.

Catalogue Note

Conte Filiberto Avogardo di Collobiano was the first son of Conte Luigi Ottavio and his wife Conetessa Caresana Marianna di Cariso. As well as being a noted landowner; he was to lead a distinguished career in public service. He was appointed Secondo Scudiero and Gentiluomo di Bocca to the king in 1821, Primo Ufficiale della Segreteria di Gabinetto to the king in 1825, and Intendente generale to the royal household in 1830, as well as serving briefly as a Senator to the Republic in 1848.
