of demi-lune form with a faux green marbre top, the frieze centred by two scrolls flanked by ribbon-tied oak leaf and acorn swags on a fluted stem terminating in an acanthus leaf spray; some replacements

Condition

The painting and gilding has been refreshed in parts. The swag on the left of the frieze is possibly a later replacement. The carved swags have also been strengthened at the back where there are later pieces of wood. There are also some chips to the painted decoration generally as visible from photograph. An attractive model in overall good condition.

Comparative Literature:
E.Colle, Il Mobile Neoclassico in Italia, Arredi e Decorazioni d'Interni dal 1775 al 1800, Milan, 2005, pp. 384-386.

This table is conceived in the spirit of a design for a console table illustrated by Colle, op. cit., p. 384, (Castello Sforzesco, Gabinetto dei Disegni, Fondo Amati). The form of this console table with its boldly scrolled central support and pastel colouring is typical of Genoese neo-classical console tables in the latter part of the 18th century. The offered table is close to one by Francesco Bozzelli (active c. 1783-1793), after designs by Randone for the interior decoration of the camera da letto of the Duchess D'Aosta, on the second floor of the Castello di Rivoli, sold in these Rooms, lot 260, 8th July 2008.
