Description
- Christ
- polychromed gesso or cartapesta, in a later gilt and painted wood frame
- Italian, Florence, late 15th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the relief is good. There is some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are several hairline fissures visible to the surface around which there are a few minor losses to the painted surface, including to the perezonium just right of the proper left arm. There are a few minor losses to the edges and corners of the relief. The relief is held in place in the frame with several pieces of cork and nails. There are a few losses to the gilding at the edges of the frame revealing the white gesso ground for the paint layer. The old iron ring for hanging on the frame is slightly loose; there are two modern mounts to the top corners of the reverse.
