- Christ Child
- polychromed wood, glass eyes and a metal aureole, with an associated, probably early 18th century, damask and brocade overdress with gilt metal trim, cotton and lace chemise and gilt braid belt; on a gilt and painted base
- Spanish, Seville, 17th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the wood and painting is very good. There is some minor wear and dirt consistent with age. There are some cracks and minor losses to the painted surface, particularly at the proper right cheek, proper left shoulder and at the hands. The metal aureoles have been reattached, remnants of the glue are visible around the mounting points.
The brocade of the dress is very tarnished and its damask ground is very worn. The internal blue and yellow lining is distressed and stained. The sleeves and their inner lacing are particularly discoloured. The gilt metal trim is also distressed. The chemise and its lace detailing is discoloured and has some small holes and splits. The gilt braid detached section which forms the belt is also slightly distressed.
The painted surface of the base has some wear and dirt consistent with age.
