Description
- Nessus and Deianeira
- bronze, on an ebonised wood base inlaid with mottled reddish marble and gilt brass
- After a model by Giambologna (1529-1608)
Condition
Overall the condition of the bronze is very good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are areas of further wear at the knees of the centaur and his proper left shoulder blade. The group was cast in sections; joints are visible throughout. Deianeira does not rest her left foot on the centaur's back. There are a few irregularities due to minor casting flaws to the drapery.
