Condition
The catalogue illsutration is representative. The single panel is bowed and is secured by a horizontal batten. Some old frame abrasion is present as well as some damage to the lower left corner. The paint surface is dirty and under a discoloured varnish. Some old inactive worm holes can be made out. Inspection under UV light reveals an uneven varnish and sme old retouchings throughout. The painting would benefit from a clean. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame with some chips.

Ringraziamo il Professore Mauro Natale per aver suggerito l'attribuzione sulla base della visione diretta dell'opera. Lo studioso data l'opera al 1530 circa, riconducendola al corpus dell'ancora poco conosciuto Maestro di San Vincenzo Martire, pittore che si ispira alla produzione di Perugino e del tardo Mantegna. lI variegato percorso artistico del pittore รจ stato di recente ben delineato da Andrea De Marchi nella mostra dedicata al Mantegna (v. Andrea De Marchi in Mantegna 1431-1506, catalogo della mostra, Parigi, Museo del Louvre, 26 Settembre 2008-5 Gennaio 2009, Parigi 2008, pp. 255-256).
