Catalogue Note

This charming panel is related to a group of panels including landscapes with ruins and fishing scenes of 1709 attributed to Baccio Capelli which were originally incorporated into a cabinet.  Cappelli was a leading artist in the Grand Ducal Workshops, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, in Florence in the 18th century.  The light blue, slightly transparent sky also compares with other works by Capelli and his circle during this period.  See A. Giusti et. al., Il Museo dell'Opificio delle Pietre Dure, Milan, 1978, figs. 48-55
