Condition

Paintings have wax relinings. Generally good condition of paint in architecture and figures. Sky appears to be a bit pressed with a few discolored retouchings visible to naked eye. U.V. reveals numerous retouchings scattered throughout composition with a larger concentration along upper architecture on right side. Second painting with Marcus Aurelius stature shows retouchings under U.V. throughout sky, including what appears to be an old repaired tear at center above Marcus Aurelius. Architecture has just a few small retouches here and there, as well as in group of figures at center. Despite restorations, pair still reads well and presents a strong image. Both in carved giltwood frames with numerous nicks and losses to gilding.
