Painting with four arches at left: Relined and under an uneven old varnish. the paint surface has been generally well preserved and painting reads well overall. there are some thinnesses noticeable in some of the darks, such as in the equestrian statue. there are some small losses at lower left corner and some old discolored retouches in sky are visible to naked eye. under UV: retouching throughout sky as mentioned; also some retouching can be seem along right and left sides. Painting with staircase and balustrade: Relined and surface has been somewhat pressed. there are scattered thinnesses in the darks and parts of the foliage. there is a horizontal canvas seam or crease across top, about two inches down from top edge. old reworkings in sky are visible to naked eye (possibly over some old repaired tears?). under UV: retouching scattered all through sky and along the seam/crease mentioned above; other retouches scattered here and there on architecture with a larger area on balustrade under the equestrian statue at left and scattered in the foreground. possible old repaired tear in foreground under the stone slab at right side. Both paintings in gilt wood frames with carving at inner edge. Some nicks.
