Provenance
With Knoedler & Co., New York, by 1946.
Condition
Painting is relined. Overall condition is quite nice with no major visible repairs as seen by the naked eye. Flesh tones, fruit, and bird in the foreground have all retained good coloration. As stated in the catalogue, the top 6 ½ in and bottom 2 3/8 inches of the painting were previously folded back before being returned to its original dimensions. UV light reveals some retouching along creases where canvas was folded. Otherwise, a few retouches, specifically in the feathers of the bird and in the darks of the background architecture, as well as a bit in the flesh of her chest. The painting presents a strong image to the viewer and is in overall good condition. In a carved and giltwood frame with minor nicks throughout the edges.

Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD for pointing out that there is a possible pendant to this painting, formerly with Nystad, The Hague in 1960 (see fig. 1). That painting, signed and dated 1710, depicts a Young Boy Kneeling and holding a Dog in a Park Landsape, with a Still Life of Game (oil on canvas, 123.4 by 104.8 cm.). At the time the present painting was with Knoedler's, the top 6 1/2 inches and bottom 2 3/8 inches of the canvas were folded back and the painting's measurements were recorded as 39 3/8 by 40 3/4 in. (99.9 by 103.5 cm.) [archive photograph, RKD, The Hague]. Sometime after that date, the painting was returned to its original size.
