Condition

The colours in the catalogue illustration are a little too red in tone. The painting has recently been cleaned, relined and restored. The paint surface has been slightly pressed by the new lining. There are a number of repaired damages visible under ultra violet light. The largest of these is an 11 x 7 cm repair behind the hare, a 3 x 2 cm. damage on the flank of the foremost guinea pig, and a 16 cm L-shaped tear and a large repair to the left of and to the head of the guinea pig on the right. There are two 2 x 2 cm. repairs in the foreground and similar scattered smaller restorations to the background, especially upper left and between the animals in the centre. The fur of the hare has also been much strengthened as has the white ceramic bowl. The restoration has been well carried out and with the exception of the largest damage is not readily visible to the naked eye, and the painting should not require further attention. The varnish layer is glossy and even. This lot is offered with a modern parcel gilt cassetta frame, with some minor damages.
