Description

  • Frans de Hulst
  • River landscape with a fortified town, a windmill on the right bank, and a rowing boat with figures in the foreground
  • signed lower right: F D HVLST
  • oil on panel

Condition

The actual painting is less yellow and more natural in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of two planks joined horizontally, and is flat and stable. The panel is lightly bevelled on all sides. The paint surface is under a yellowed varnish. The paint surface appears well preserved, if a little thin in the sky. A few retouchings can be made out in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals a few additional tiny retouching in the boat lower ight, in the water and in the mill. Offered in a plain black wood frame in good condition.
