Condition
The catalogue illustration is representative for the actual painting.
The canvas has an old, slightly stiff relining. No damages are apparent. The paint surface is under an uneven and dirty varnish. The paint surface is sound if a little abraded in the background. There are a few tiny flecks of paint loss along the lower left and lower edges, probably due to the frame.
A few small retouchings, mainly in the background can be made out, as well as a larger area of retouching in the green table cloth, but in particular the dead game , the lobster and the vegetables appear nicely preserved. Inspection under UV light is inconclusive due to the dirty varnish.
Offered in a decorative carved and gilt wood frame with a few losses.

Catalogue Note
This composition, formerly ascribed to Frans Snijders, is known in at least two other versions with minor variations, both of inferior quality. One was sold, Brussels, Palais des Beaux-Arts, 12 June 1979, lot 636 (canvas, 91 by 146 cm.), and the other sold, London, Bonhams, 7 July 2004, lot 72 (panel, 98 by 127). All three presumably derive from a lost original by Snyders.
