Description

  • Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn
  • Tronie of a young boy, bust length, wearing a brown coat and a beret
  • oil on panel

Provenance

Bought by the grandfather of the present owner in the 1930s.

Condition

The actual painting is less red than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single flat panel is in good condition and bevelled on all sides. The paint surface appears well preserved, with subtle details still intact. The paint surface is under a slightly dirty and dull varnish. A small spot of retouching can be observed in the figure's cheek and hair. Inspection under UV light is partially impeded by the varnish layer, but does reveal a few additional spots of retouchings in the background lower right, in the beret and in the right half of the figure's face. Offered in a decorative gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition.
