  • signed lower left: D Vertangen.
  • oil on copper

Provenance

Anonymous sale, Vienna, Dorotheum, 2 October 2002, lot 151.

Condition

The actual painting is more blue and stronger in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The copper plate is flat and stable. The paint surface is secure and under a clear layer of varnish. No damages are visible to the naked eye. A few small retouchings can be observed along the right edge. Inspection under UV light reveals extensive retouchings in the lower background, particularly in the green ares. The figures, however, appear fairly intact. Offered in a plain wood frame with gilt fillets with a few losses.
