Description

  • Pieter Gysels
  • A village street in a wooded landscape with villagers drinking outside an inn, other figures on a path along the riverside, an elegant company halting near a ferry boat
  • oil on copper

Condition

The actual painting is softer and less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The copper plate has a few minor dents and a small crease lower left, but otherwise, is in good condition. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish. The paint layer appears nicely preserved. Minor retouching can be observed in the clouds, and inspection under UV light reveals two retouched paint losses in the lower left corner, retouchings along the right edge, and minor strengthening to the lower right and in some of the figures. Overall, this painting is in good condition. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame with a glass plate in good condition.
