Description

  • Christ shown to the people
  • oil on panel

Condition

The actual painting is a lot softer and less yellow and red than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel seems to consist of 2 planks joined vertically and has a very faint convex bow. There's a thin vertical split in the lower left corner. The paint surface is under a thick and dirty varnish layer. There's a fine craquelure throughout which is beginning to lift in some areas. The paint surface is generally sound. Retouchings can be observed along the join in the centre, in Christ's face and shoulder. Inspection under UV light reveals additional scattered retouchings, e.g. in the faces of the figures on the left, and in Christ's right arm. Offered in a plain parcel gilt wood frame with a few losses.
