Description

  • Cornelis Dusart
  • A young boy and girl in front of a cottage, teasing a cat
  • signed and dated centre right: Cor. Dusart,1682
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

With P. de Boer, Amsterdam;
With S. Nijstad, The Hague, 1953;
Collection Esser, Nijmegen, 1954;
With Galerie St. Lucas, Vienna, by 1975 (reproduced in the catalogue, cat no. 22).

Exhibited

Amsterdam, Kunsthandel de Boer, Zomer tentoonstelling, 1941, no. 7.

Condition

The actual painting is less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a rather firm relining. No damages are apparent, and the paint layer is secure, if a little abraded in some areas. The paint surface is under a slightly dirty and glossy layer of varnish. Inspection under UV light is largely impeded by the varnish layer, although some tiny scattered retouchings, e.g. in the boy's mouth and girl's cheek become apparent. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame, with a few chips. (MW)
