Condition

The actual painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel appears to consist of 3 planks joined horizontally, and is bevelled on all sides. The panel is sound and no damages are apparent. The paint surface is secure if a little abraded in some areas, e.g. in the central figure. Some retouchings can be observed in the figure on the left, and in the upper background. Inspection under UV light reveals a tiny retouched scratch in the face of the figure on the left, and some additional recent strengthenings in the face of the standing figure, in the fire lower right, and in the figure most right. Offered in a black wood frame with a gilt fillet. (MW)
