The actual painting is less blue and darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an effective relining. Stretcher marks are visible to the front. There's a slightly coarse craquelure throughout which is beginning to lift in some areas, e.g. lower right corner. The paint surface is secure and under a very dirty and discoloured layer of varnish. A few small discoloured retouchings can be observed in the sky and a retouched scratch is visible centre left. Inspection under UV light reveals an additional repaired damage upper right and very minor retouchings in the hen and chicks, and in the mouth of the dog. Offered in a later plain green painted wood frame with a gilt fillet in good condition. (MW)
