Description
- Joost Cornelisz. Droochsloot
- A village street with a group of peasants seated outside an inn, a boy playing with a dog in the foreground
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual painting is darker and less blue in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is sound. The panel is very lightly beveled on the upper side, and beveled on all other sides. Three very thin splits are visible in the upper left corner, and there are a few minor paint losses along the upper edge. The paint layer is secure if a little abraded in the centre background and is under a very dirty and dull varnish layer. A few tiny retouched scattered paint losses are visible in the sky. Inspection under UV light is largely impeded by the dirty varnish layer, but does reveal additional scattered retouchings in the upper left corner and possibly some minor strengthening in the houses.
Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame with a few paint losses. (MW)
