Description
- Hubert van Ravesteyn
- a kitchen still life with a cabbage, onions, parsnips, a jug and other kitchen utensils over a wooden table
- bears monogram and date lower centre: H.v.R fecit 1663
- oil on panel
Provenance
F.C. Butôt, Sankt Gilgen, Austria;
With Lepinski, Frankfurt;
From whom bought by the late husband of the present owner (all as by Van Ravesteyn).
Condition
The actual painting is a lot less red and softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is flat and stable and lightly beveled on all sides. The paint surface is well preserved, if a little abraded in the background, and is under a reasonably clear layer of varnish. There's one very tiny fleck of paint loss in the upper right corner. Under UV light tiny scattered retouchings become visible, mainly in the background, as well as some minor strengthening in some of the objects in the foreground.
Offered in a decorated dark wood frame with moulded borders in good condition. (MW)
