Description
- Willem Claesz. Heda
- still life with a roemer and a pasglas, a ham and a knife on pewter plates, a silver jar, a tazza and a bread roll, all on a table draped with a white cloth
- oil on panel
Provenance
Possibly with Galerie Internationale, The Hague, circa 1930.
Condition
The actual painting is softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel seems to consist of 3 vertical planks and is cradled. There's a small dent in the upper left corner, a tiny fleck of paint loss along the left edge and a very thin diagonal split in the upper left corner. Otherwise, no damages are apparent. The paint surface is secure, although there's some thinness in some areas, and is under a dirty layer of varnish. Some small scattered discoloured retouchings can be observed in the background and in the plates. Inspection under UV light is largely impeded by the dirty varnish layer but does reveal some additional strengthening in some of the objects, e.g. the ham and the roemer.
Offered in a decorative gilt wood frame with a few damages. (MW)
