Description

  • Aert Anthonisz.
  • A ship engaged in battle, in rough waters, near a stronghold
  • oil on panel

Provenance

With L. van der Eerden, Bleskensgraaf, by 1994.

Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative for the actual painting. The single panel is sound and very lightly beveled along the upper and left edges. The paint surface is secure though some areas of abrasion are apparent, and is under a slightly dirty layer of varnish. Some tiny retouchings are visible in the clouds. Inspection under UV light reveals additional tiny ones in the sky, in the castle and in the tree parts centre right. Offered in a later faux tortoise shell frame in good condition. (MW)
