Condition
The colours in the catalogue are representative of those in the painting, if not the original is a little less red in tones.
The panel is made up of three vertical planks (two majors and a minor one), supported by two horizontal battens on the reverse.
The painting is offered in a gilt cassetta frame (about 10 cm) with some losses of gilt.
To the naked eye scattered restoration is visible, notably on the red robe of the saint, together with a longitudinal crack in the centre of the painting corresponding to the joint of the planks, not much interfering with the saint figure, all visible from the catalogue illustration as well.
Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some pictorial strengthenings on the dark background and tiny brush-pointed retouchings on the saint’s face.
