The colours in the catalogue are representative of those in the painting. The canvas has bee relined and it is offered in a gilt XVII-Century style frame in good condition, with few losses of gilt and some woodworm holes. To the naked eye the painting is abraded in areas and several small paint losses are apparent along the margins, around and above the saint’s head and at the bottom of the cross, all visible from the catalogue illustration, as well as some pictorial retouchings in the dark areas along the right margin. Inspection under ultra-violet light confirms the afore-mentioned restoration in the right part of the canvas and reveals some other scattered retouchings.
