Drypoint, 1905, a rare impression printed before steel-facing and the bevelling of the plate, with the burr printing throughout and with a veil of tone, signed in pencil, from the Saltimbanques suite, printed by Delâtre, on Vergé d'Arches paper, with full margins (previously folded back on four sides), generally in good condition apart from a few small fox marks in the image, a thinned area in the left margin, the plate mark at bottom backed with japan

Provenance

Hauswedell Nolte December 2007, Lot 82
From the collection of Paul Poiret, Paris (also loaned to the Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris)

Condition

The print is generally in good condition as catalogued. There are circa three tiny but dark fox marks in the image: below the bowl at far left, to the right of the ball and in the sky at upper right. Small, pale spots visible in the image when it is held up to a strong light suggest attempts to brighten additional fox marks have been made during conservation. The thinned area in the left margin extends vertically just outside the left plate mark at top and measures circa 4 by 2 inches. There is an additional small thinned spot in the upper margin at center. The lower plate mark has weakened and is breaking through in some places so it has been backed with japan. The margins have been folded back at all sheet edges; circa 3 inches at top and bottom and circa 1 inch at left and right. There is non-archival adhesive tape along the upper and lower sheet edges verso.
