Description

- Belshazzar's Feast
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas is unlined and consists of two separate pieces joined together vertically in the centre. There are three restored tears which have been patched to the reverse. One centre right in the area of the burning torches, another lower right in the robes of the group of figures, and a third upper left.
The paint surface is secure and under a dirty glossy varnish. Areas of restoration are visible to the naked eye along the central join and in the aforementioned tears. Inspection under UV light confirms this and reveals other areas of restoration and strengthening in particular t the lower half most notable in the figure group on the right.
Offered in a wooden gold paint frame in fair condition.
