Condition

The support consists of a irregular shaped fragment that has been fitted into the frame by tow vertical wooden batons painted terracotta colour. The terracotta has cracked in a number of places and a large fragment has come away completely in the left hand corner, as visible in the catalogue illustration. The paint surface is secure and dirty. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered minor retouchings, most notably in the face and infilling some of the cracks. Offered in a wood and plaster gilt and painted frame, abraded with knocks,
